Opening Ceremonies - International Children's Winter Games

Opening Ceremonies 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The International Children's Winter Games will be held January 26-31, 2011 in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada and are expected to bring together athletes and coaches from cities around the world. Kelowna will host international youth, age 12 to 15, for a week of fun-filled games, sporting events, festivals and more.
The Games aim to enable, develop and advance the meeting, understanding and friendship of youths from different countries around the world and promote the Olympic ideal.
A celebration of children's sports, the Games calls youth from all over the world to meet each other and become friends in the context of a sports event held exclusively for them. The event puts emphasis on sporting ideals, respect and understanding different cultures and ways of thinking. The aim of the Games is not to win but to create strong bonds of friendship and solidarity between young athletes from all over the world.
The Kelowna Games will feature a variety of activities and special events for athletes and delegates, the VIPs, Participant Families and Host Families and for the people of Kelowna and the Central Okanagan to celebrate together.
The exciting Opening Ceremonies will be held on January 27, 2011 at 7 pm at Prospera Place. The Pre-Show starts and doors open at 6 pm. The two hour ceremony will include a parade of athletes, a live show featuring local artists and cultural entertainment, a torch run, and the official opening of the Games.
